thank you to all who have shared your
comments in regard to our dogs/puppies
& your experience with Briargate Beagles...Colleen & Harry
|
When I decided to get a beagle puppy, I was very lucky to have an
acquaintance who already a Briargate beagle. I was determined to
know
what I was getting and Briargate filled the bill for me.
I was impressed with their screening process and they actually drove half
way to meet for the exchange.
After meeting Harry and Colleen, I was totally comfortable with my
purchase.
That was July 4, 2005. I could carry both puppies, one in each
hand! Not
anymore though. They have the run of my half acre yard contained by
an invisible
fence. They sleep with me, under the covers, every night. Although I
do
not show them, I constantly get complimentary comments from friends on
how
beautiful they are. For me, they are pets...but we do occasionally
chase
bunnies through the woods. I couldn't be happier with my puppies.
They are
everything Colleen promised....and much more! Thank you!

After 12 years I finally convinced my husband that our family wouldn’t
be complete without a dog. We decided (through research etc) that a
beagle might be the ideal dog – size, temperament, intelligence but
did not want a puppy. After contacting Colleen, learning more about
beagles and being interviewed via email, we drove to meet Gandalf.
Colleen said yes but wanted to meet me in person and I said yes but we
had to make sure Gandalf said yes because sometimes people and dogs
don’t mesh. Colleen and Candace came by after that to see Gandalf (to
ensure he was healthy and happy I think). It was love at first sight
and Gandalf came home with us the next day. Colleen and Harry had
obviously done something right as breeders and home-raising the dogs
because Gandalf is an absolute sweetheart. He is extremely large for a
beagle (which is why he was available) but just the right size for
us. He is sweet-natured, eager to please, playful, intelligent,
protective when the occasion warrants, a wuss and has turned more
people into dog fanciers than I’ve ever met. I think the inherent
traits are due to breeding and home environment, both before and after
he moved in with us. He happily shares a home with 4 cats,1 miniature
poodle and is half protector, half playmate. He’s also a tattletail
and will let me know when someone is doing something they are not
supposed to (like climbing the Christmas tree). He lets us know when
people are walking on the path next to our house but “stands down”
when told to. I remember emailing Colleen because at first Gandalf did
not bark much. Ha! Not a problem now. In closing I can honestly say
that any beagle from Briargate and Colleen and Harry will be an
excellent dog. Whether for show or companion, their dogs are all
beautiful, intelligent and a joy to own.
I wouldn’t trade Gandalf for all the tea in China!

To be honest, I literally stumbled
onto Brairgate. I was looking to get a Beagle pup in the summer of
2005 and was calling breeders all over Southern Ontario. I was
actually referred to Colleen by another breeder. After a phone
interview, we agreed that I should visit the pups so that I could meet
them (and I am sure so that Colleen and Harry could eyeball me).
Needless to say, we all got along famously and now we own Logan
(a.k.a. Briargate’s Standing Room Only). Logan’s show career would
best be described as relatively short, but relatively successful. He
retired with 3 points after 4 shows, and would almost certainly be a
Canadian Champion by now but … life (and neutering) got in the way. He
is a wonderfully tempered dog, and a fabulous companion and family
member. He is also very cute. Trust me, proper breeding and early care
matter! As for Colleen and Harry, they run a wonderful kennel. The
dogs are well cared for, and definitely not over-bred. If you are
considering a very high quality pup, a call to Briargate is a must!
You will not find more conscientious breeders than Colleen and Harry.
I would certainly never get a pup anywhere else.

" Briargate Tytus Field Glory " Aurora" was a gift from my mother
to me.
When Aurora arrived to the Philippines, my son Paolo wanted to take
care
of Aurora immediately. He constantly slept with Aurora and gave her a
bath. He loved Aurora very much.
While Aurora was getting more mature. I started conditioning and
training
her to enter the show ring. She was such an obedient and wise young
girl
and could learn quickly with a smart attitude and grace. This quality
also
brought upon by the constant care of Colleen when she was just a
puppy. A
friend of mine said to me that a show dog starts from puppyhood.
Attitude
and temperament are very essential to the development of a show dog.
Aurora is a Philippine Champion who was constantly picked from the
class
to win Best of Opposite Sex and Group placements. I personally groomed
and
handled her to some spectacular wins and now she is a mother of 3
Philippine Champions.
I thank Colleen for her friendship and trust in sending Aurora to our
country. Aurora is living happily and contently with us. "
